Sensei Profile

As a Chief instructor of Korekushon Ju-Jitsu Association and Wolverhampton Ju-Jitsu Club, Sensei Terry Boorer 6Th Dan (Renshi) has been training in Martial Arts for over 40 years.

His introduction to Ju-Jitsu was with a Ju-Jitsu club situated in Wolverhampton, called the International Association of Traditional Martial Arts (IATMA) which at the time was under the instruction of the late professor George Wilson. The training he received there was in the style of Hontai Yoshin Ryu, an ancient Japanese discipline where the training was both hard and strict.

After obtaining the rank of 1st Kyu in Body Arts and Weapons, he left together with one of the instructors to form another club and joined the United Kingdom Ju-Jitsu Association, UKJJA based in Rochdale with the late Allan Tattersall, Hanshi. Tattersall Sensei had his own style, Myshin Ryu recognised by the DNBK in Japan.

In 1991 Sensei Terry was awarded his first ever black belt 1St Dan, an achievement which most martial artists hope to one day obtain. It was shortly after this time Sensei Terry became the sole instructor of Torakai Ju-Jitsu Club which later became to be known as Wolverhampton Ju-jitsu Club.

In the year, 1993 Sensei Terry who still continued to teach and train himself, passed his grading, and was awarded with his 2nd Dan rank.

In 1994 Sensei Terry was fortunate enough to be assessed for his 3rd Dan by none other than Dr. Tesshin Hamada Hanshi (Director of the International and USA Divisions of the Dai Nippon Butoku Kai, DNBK) and certified by Higashi Fushimi Jigo of the Dai Nippon Butoku Kai Honbu, Kyoto, Japan. Needless to say Sensei Terry impressed all instructors and was awarded with his 3rd Dan.

While still training under the UKJJA Association Sensei Terry passed his 4th Dan in 2000, and successfully went on to represent the association in competitions taking place in Germany and Italy.

By 2003 Sensei Terry decided to move to the Bushi Karate Ju-Jitsu Association, but still maintained strong ties with members from his former Association.

During his time with the Bushi Karate Ju-Jitsu Association Sensei Terry continued to further develop his knowledge of not only Ju-Jitsu but of  other martial arts too such as Shotokan Karate and Ko Budo. obtaining his 5th  Dan in Jujitsu which he was awarded the title of Renshi  by Sensei Billy Griffiths 7th Dan.

In 2009 Sensei Terry was awarded his (Rokudan) 6th Dan rank by the Irish Ju- Jitsu Kai by Joe Karslake, Hanshi and ratified by the late John Biggs of Silent Spring Ju-Jitsu Association. Another recognition of 6th Dan rank was awarded in 2010 by Karl Fitsimmons, Hanshi of Global Ju-Jitsu, Liverpool.

Sensei Terry has not only been graded in Ju-Jitsu but has also been graded in Shotokan Karate and Ko Budo.  He has also attained qualifications in Teaching, Self-Defence, Physical Restraint, Physical Intervention Training, Conflict Management, D32/D33 Assessing and First Aid training.

Over the years he has had the pleasure of training with some of the best masters of their arts, sadly a lot of them are no longer with us and far too many to name.  He continues to learn and also pass on his knowledge to those who wish to embellish their lives with modern day practical applications and the historical traditional art of Ju-Jitsu.

With his extensive knowledge on varied forms of fighting and utilising different techniques, Sensei Terry has proved to be an insightful teacher who thrives to inspire and encourage all of his pupils regardless of their age. His love for the art of Ju-Jitsu can be seen in his dedication to the art itself. Though he is vastly experienced he is still humble enough to be admit that he too is still learning, and that he learns alongside his pupils. A motto that he regularly tells his class.
